The song "Nightswimming" is swimming in my mind this week as it will serve as inspiration for me in the near future. Regardless, this random line selected from the lyrics reflects a pondering that I indulged myself with over a year ago. That indulgence has led to the biggest life changing experience yet.
Now there are two. Two children. Two boys. Double the fun? Doublemint, Doublemint gum?
Hardly. Double the worry, double the sleep loss. Forgive the cliche, but double the trouble.
In a surprise moment of uncharacteristic pessimism, Joe said, "This is it. It's never going to be better!" And I said, "We can only take it one day at a time. Otherwise we'll go crazy. So every morning is a new day, and a new chance for a good day."
He was shocked by the role reversal. I was shocked by my optimism.
But it's true. There are good days. And so, in response to the poetic words by REM: "And what if there were two/Side by side in orbit/Around the fairest sun?" My answer is: Cheesecake. Days are longer, harder, and so much richer. Like cheesecake.
P.S.--Joe is the fairest sun, not me. I'm Pluto. Small, insignificant, and officially removed from the solar system.
